Sarah grew up on a small family farm in Greenback, Tennessee, where she learned to drawl (y’all) like the Southern girl she still is. From a young age, she helped keep the family afloat by milking cows, feeding chicken and pigs, hauling hay, and harvesting the crops — corn, wheat, and tobacco.
In 1977, Boeing hired Sarah to be the first local employee at its new Oak Ridge, Tennessee, facility, which would build centrifuge machines to enrich uranium for the US Department of Energy. Starting as a secretary, she built a 35-year career that eventually took her to Everett, Washington, where she gave factory tours of the world’s largest building to Jordan’s Queen Noor and golf’s Greg Norman.
Following her 1999 marriage to Gary (the blog dude), they grew weary of Washington’s gray skies and moved to Southern California, where she worked in Seal Beach, investing millions of dollars in the community on Boeing’s behalf until her retirement in 2012.
In La Quinta, California, Sarah turned her energy to community service, serving on boards and committees, elected and appointed. She is a fitness fanatic, working out or practicing yoga pretty much every day. Since moving to Colorado in late 2017, Sarah’s completed the “orthopaedic six-pack,” acquiring two new knees, two titanium hips, and two surgically repaired shoulders. Then in 2025, she got two new discs in her spine, and a realignment, making her one inch taller! The woman’s practically good as new.
Now a full-time Coloradan, Sarah enjoys the great outdoors — hiking, biking, snowshoeing, and walking up mountains in the winter. She even spent two seasons at the Treehouse Kids’ Adventure Center in Snowmass, where she worked in Guest Services, supporting ski school operations for “Bears,” kids ages 3-4.
Sarah is a former Harley owner/rider, but hasn’t ridden much in recent years. While not formally a member of the “Riding With Gary” posse, she might as well be. Sarah provides support and encouragement – and gives Gary the freedom to ride, virtually shoving him out the door each summer as he hits the road. Today, her bike of choice is a Specialized Turbo Como 3.0 e-bike, which means the Lesser/Murr garage houses two of them, plus a Harley. Vroom!
In June 2023, Sarah rode with the posse for the first time, joining Gary for the first five days of his 2023 adventure, as well as following him in the Boxster for the final four days of that trip. Hooray! And vroom. Oh … and she came along for the first week of the 2025 journey, the Colorado-Pass-a-Palooza™.
