Gail, a bubbly blue-eyed blond, is the quintessential California Girl. Born and raised in Long Beach, she attended Jordan High School, where she met Dave in her senior year. He was a jock, and she was captain of the cheerleading squad.
Gail’s had some interesting jobs — importing and exporting cargo for Stevedoring Services of America, and working in Security for McDonnell Douglas. Her real calling, though, was being a stay-at-home mom for Tess and Nathan. They’re both graduates of Hope International University in Fullerton, where Gail and Dave lived until 2019, when they picked up stakes and moved to Henderson, Nevada.
Gail takes her reading seriously, having been a librarian at Tess and Nathan’s elementary school, and at the Bowman’s church when they lived in St. Louis. While there, she was awarded “Parent-With-Best Method-of-Calling-Their-Children-Home,” based on her whistling skills.
Volunteering is a big part of Gail’s life. She joins Dave in being a devoted volunteer to the Special Olympics movement. And, she’s a member of the Henderson, Nevada, Community Emergency Response Team, which provides support to first responders, assistance to victims, and organizes spontaneous volunteers at disaster sites. Gail also volunteers with the Henderson Ready Crew, which helps educate the public on emergency preparedness. She’s a good person to have around when things go south.
The Bowmans live about 15 miles from Hoover Dam, the world-famous civil engineering marvel, not far from Boulder City, Nevada. Gail is a member of the Boulder City Elks Lodge, known as “The Friendliest Lodge by a Dam Site.”
Never one to let dust settle under her feet, Gail has run a dozen half-marathons; her latest was the February 2022 Las Vegas Rock n Roll Half Marathon with Nathan and Tess, the two Bowman kids. While living in California, she regularly took part in the Camp Pendleton Mud Run (she claims to love both Marines and mud). A licensed boat captain, Gail enjoys riding on the back of Dave’s Harley. In August 2021, Gail and Dave celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary, while riding together in South Dakota’s Black Hills.
Gail joined the posse for the Black Hills portion of the 2017 Sturgis Bucket List Ride, and did it again in 2021, both times riding in the passenger seat on Dave’s Harley. Gail re-joined the posse in June 2023 for the Nevada/Arizona/Utah portion of the trip, riding shotgun in a pickup truck.
