A Father-Son Journey Ends. Until Next Time.

Clarence and Cliff, on top of the world, high on the Grand Mesa.

Today’s journey mirrors the ride we had on Day One of Trip One, back on June 8.

We leave Palisade, begin the ride through Grand Mesa Scenic Byway Canyon, go through De Beque Canyon, and after a break, come through the canyon again, heading south.

Now we’re on our way to the Grand Mesa, at 500 square miles, the world’s largest flat-topped mountain.

On the other side of the mesa, we arrive in Hotchkiss, where we begin the now-familiar climb over McClure Pass, then follow the Crystal River home to Carbondale, bringing to an end a four-day, 775-mile trip.

Two trips down, three to go.

And now, a few pics from today’s ride.

On the Grand Mesa. Halfway home.
Waiting patiently in Paonia for The Hearth to open. It’s 11:58, and they open at noon. Well worth waiting for.
The Hearth is Paonia’s fun little ice cream shop. It’s now a tradition to stop there for a scoop at the end of every trip. For the record, Clarence is enjoying some White Chocolate Espresso; Cliff has a Mint Chip cone.
But wait, the trip’s not quite over. Not till I roll into our driveway. Great ride the past four days, and always good to be home. See you again on July 6; heading for Meeker, Walden and Winter Park.
